Technology is constantly helping to evolve the running shoe industry, with new fabrics, insoles and lacing systems being developed every year. Adidas is taking running shoes into the future, with 3D-printed running shoes.

Adidas is partnering with 3D-printing company Materialise on their new line, the Futurecraft 3D. These shoes can be tailored to the runner, giving you the option to run on a treadmill and instantly get a 3D-printed running shoe made just for your foot. This could lead to immediate in-store fittings in the future, as they continue to develop technology and push boundaries in the industry.

“Futurecraft 3D is a prototype and a statement of intent,” explainsEric Liedtke, Executive Board Member of adidas AG, responsible for Global Brands. “We have used a one-of-its-kind combination of process and material in an entirely new way. Our 3D-printed midsole not only allows us to make a great running shoe, but also to use performance data to drive truly bespoke experiences, meeting the needs of any athlete.”

Adidas released a video to give runners a peek at how the technology behind Futurecraft works:
