2018 Popular Brooklyn Half Marathon

The largest half marathon in the United States kicks off again on May 19, this time with more than 27,500 runners expected to show up on race day. Starting in front of the Brooklyn Museum and finishing on the Coney Island boardwalk, the Popular Brooklyn Half Marathon leads runners through some of the highlights of New York’s Brooklyn borough as they compete for the coveted $1,000 first-place prize, awarded to the first-place male and female finishers.

Olympian and former American half-marathon record holder Deena Kastor will be among those racing on Saturday, as will a handful of celebrities (including former NFL running back Tiki Barber and award-winning performer Cynthia Erivo). An estimated 1,000 kids between the ages of 8 and 18 will also race on Saturday as representatives of the Rising New York Road Runners, though their race route will be a much shorter 1-mile out-and-back stretch along the Coney Island boardwalk. “It will be an inspirational day for all generations throughout the Brooklyn community,” President and CEO of New York Road Runners Michael Capiraso said in an official press release.

The first wave of Brooklyn Half Marathon runners is scheduled to start at 7 a.m. on Saturday, May 19. For more information about this year’s race, visit the NYRR event page.
