The 2018 Tel Aviv Samsung Marathon, which took place last Friday, February 23, had 40,000 runners participating across the 5K, 10K, half marathon and marathon distances. It also featured a record number of 2,500 international participants, with the largest delegations coming from Germany (335 runners), Poland (192), Russia (185), U.S. (182), Italy (105) and France (102). It’s no wonder that the race was such a destination for runners—the city features a vibrant, young culture, an exciting food scene and stunning beaches with miles of walkable/runnable/bike-able promenade along them.
The mostly flat course took runners starting from the city’s convention center to the coast for views of the white-sand beaches of the Mediterranean. Runners also ran past Carmel Market, Rabin Square and marathoners ran all the way into Old Jaffa, one of the most ancient port cities in the world. Race day brought cool and cloudy weather for some ideal running conditions (despite a little drizzle of rain at the start). The urban course provided plenty of spectator support (an estimated 150,000 spectators) and sights for runners to take in.
