I use water bottles constantly, and therefore I have loads of them – different brands, sizes and
shapes, some of them straightforward and some with more complex features.
Normally I still reach for the simplest bottle I can find, as many of the
gimmicky models seem to overcomplicate the basic need to transport liquids. But
the Podium ChillJacket, from the hydration experts at Camelbak, successfully
addresses two basic bottle issues that are worth combating.
Most standard bottles do nothing to keep their contents cool. The ChillJacket, as the name
suggests, has thermal insulation which does, in fact, keep beverages cool for
several hours. I purposefully left mine in my car yesterday, in the warm California sun, while I
ran several errands. Before heading home, I stopped off at my favorite running
trail for a quick 30 minute romp, and was pleasantly refreshed afterward with
water that maintained its chill.
The second feature of the ChillJacket that won me over is its self-sealing JetValve – preventing
leaks and spills. The valve allows fluids to flow with ease, but shuts itself
off when the user is done drinking. In addition, it features a secure lockout
which completely seals the cap with one simple twist, allowing for dry
transport in a gym bag or on a car seat.
The bottle is frill-free in design, appearing much like a standard bicycle water bottle. I’m certainly a
fan of its simple, yet significant features, and will relegate the ChillJacket
to front and center of my bottle collection!Â
