Doglegs09.1

In
a twist on the standard 5k and 10k run format, a new race series allows both
you and your pooch a shot at the podium. DogRunDog events are designed for
runners who train with their four-legged friends, and who want to take their
teamwork to a new level of fun and competition.

The
rules are simple: a team consists of one human and one dog tethered together
for the entirety of the run. All dogs one-year-old and above are welcome to
race – and younger puppies not yet ready to run the distance may be carried by
their human companions. The event director’s good humor (and respect for the
various race venues) is evident in this tidbit from the Entry Guidelines:
People are responsible for
scooping (unless you can get your dog to do it).

The DogRunDog series includes upcoming stops in Vermont, Utah and California, with races
planned nationwide in 2010. If you’re eager to learn more about the do’s and don’ts
of running with your dog, as well as general tips on your furry pal’s health
and happiness, be sure to check out the event’s Dog Blog, where the official
vet for the series dispenses invaluable advice.
