A recent article in the Journal of Aesthetic Nursing says most women place unrealistic expectations on the power of skincare products, and fail to remember the best anti-aging stuff doesn’t come in a bottle. Good health practices, such as a healthy diet, adequate sleep and regular exercise, are the biggest contributors to a youthful appearance. Must be why Women’s Running readers are so darn good looking!

How ’s This for Cross Training?
Want to get your guy to join you for a run? Tell him it’ll help his between-the-sheets time. The Journal of Sexual Medicine reports that increased physical activity is associated with better sexual function in men. (P.S. You’re welcome.)
Put on a Happy Face
If you’re sidelined with an injury, resist the urge to throw yourself a pity party. An optimistic attitude may help you heal. A study published in the Scandinavian Journal of Medicine & Science in Sports shows that injured athletes who took an active, positive role in their recovery had the best outcomes. Chin up, girl—you’ll be running soon!

Though exercise during pregnancy has been proven safe and beneficial, many women choose to stay inactive during those nine months. Why? The Journal of Sport Psychology says moms-to-be are worried about what others might think. However, pregnant women described as “regular exercisers” are actually viewed more favorably than non-exercisers by survey takers. Take that baby bump for a spin tonight!

Bring back family game night! A study in the International Sports Medicine Journal compared traditional exercise to Nintendo Wii boxing and tennis. The results? The Wii can get your heart rate up just as high as running or cycling, but the game feels easier, making it more likely you’ll sweat for a longer period of time.

According to the Center for Women’s Business Research, female-owned businesses in the United States contribute nearly $3 trillion to the economy annually and have been growing at more than twice the rate of businesses owned by men.
