Frozen Desserts for Summer

A frozen dessert doesn’t have to be uber-rich and dairy-filled. These options are healthy–and boy, do they taste good!

Sambazon Superfruit Acai Bites, $6-13 for box of nine or 24

These little chocolate-covered nibbles of acai berry sorbet are ideal for a 50-calorie cooling snack—or even a midnight bite—of antioxidants and omega-3s.

Enlightened The Good-For-You Ice Cream, $6

High protein and low sugar is the pitch from this brand that has a huge assortment of flavors (seven new ones). With 60 to 100 calories per serving, they are sweetened with erythritol (a natural sweetener), monk fruit and, sometimes, cane sugar. We enjoyed the fresh pineapple-and-coconut taste of the Piña Colada flavor.

Coolhaus Grasshopper Sammie, $6

This gourmet, natural ice cream company started in a food truck in Los Angeles and is now at stores nationwide. Its minty, almost-all-chocolate sandwich was the eye-popper at our taste test. Share this 520-calorie splurge with your running buddy.

My/Mo Mochi Ice Cream, $6 for box of six

If you’re familiar with mochi desserts (popular in Japan), you probably love them already. This 110-calorie version comes in usual ice cream flavors such as strawberry and vanilla, but one of our office faves was the more traditional green tea.

NadaMoo! The Rockiest Road, $6-7

Organic coconut milk is the base for this dairy-free ice cream that comes in familiar and creative flavors such as snickerdoodle dough, java crunch and maple pecan. The Rockiest Road (150 calories per half-cup) is new with almonds, cookie chunks and marshmallow swirls.

GoodPop Orange n’ Cream, $6 for box of four

Our taste buds were fooled by this healthy take on a Creamsicle. The coconut cream filling pairs perfectly with the orange juice coating, while delivering 80 calories and 9 grams of sugar.
