Last year, Nike introduced the Nike LunarEpic Flyknit, which featured a unique design that included an ankle-high bootie. Later last year they introduced the LunarEpic Low—and last week they introduced the second version of this shoe, the Nike LunarEpic Flyknit 2.
I was fortunate enough to get to take the brand-new Nike LunarEpic Low Flyknit 2 out on an early morning test run at Mile High Run Club in NYC on the day of its release. Here’s the lowdown on the shoe and how it feels right out of the box.
First off, it’s a good-looking shoe. The colorways available for purchase range from cotton candy pink and blue to neutral shades of black and grey.
As soon as I slid my foot into the shoe, I noticed the construction is different from the other running shoes in my closet. The upper and tongue are not separate parts; its nearly seamless construction fits like a sock. The toe box is snug, but did not feel narrow on my wide foot.
After lacing up my shoes, it was time to hit the treadmill for an interval workout coached by Olympian and Nike-sponsored athlete, English Gardner. During my first stride on the treadmill, I felt like I was floating. These shoes literally make you feel as though your running on clouds.
As Gardner instructed us to pick-up the pace, I noticed how light I felt each time my foot touched down on the treadmill belt. The shoe felt flexible, but with just a bit of firmness. I’ve been running in the same shoes I ran my fall marathon in back in November and because of this, I was a bit concerned how a new shoe might feel without breaking it in first. However, this shoe felt comfortable upon the first stride.
I felt smooth while running intervals and I loved how the cushion of the shoe seemed to absorb some of the impact. This could be a great shoe for a runner who prefers a neutral, cushioned shoe that absorbs impact and feels like pillows on your feet.
