The Unity Kinvara 9

In recognition of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Saucony has joined the wave of companies that create special products in support and awareness of breast cancer research. Released earlier this week in partnership with Dr. Susan Love Research Foundation, Saucony’s limited-edition Unity Kinvara 9 is the latest shoe to join the running-specific collection of cancer awareness products, with 20 percent of every Unity shoe sold going directly to research for breast cancer causes and treatment.

“Breast cancer is something that has touched too many people’s lives,” President of Saucony Anne Cavassa said in an official press release. “The Dr. Susan Love Research Foundation’s Army of Women is an opportunity for our community of runners and non-runners alike to unite in support of a revolutionary initiative transforming the face of breast cancer research and ultimately making a positive difference for people everywhere.”

Putting a new spin on Saucony’s popular Kinvara 8 follow-up, the Unity carries the brand’s Everun topsole and EVA+ midsole technologies forward in this latest neutral road shoe iteration. Weighing in at 6.5 oz. with a shallow 4mm offset, the Unity is a lightweight shoe in spite of its full-bodied look, with responsive cushioning built into the midsole and a light mesh upper designed for breathability.

Saucony is just the latest company to contribute to the Breast Cancer Awareness movement through charitable donations from individual product sales. New Balance is one such brand pursuing similar goals through sales of products featured within Lace Up for the Cure, a collection of apparel, shoes and accessories that donates 5 percent of every sale to support nonprofit Susan G. Komen in the fight against breast cancer. The North Face similarly collaborates with Boarding for Breast Cancer, a nonprofit geared toward young adults that advocates early detection and the preventative benefits of a healthy lifestyle, and Breast Cancer Prevention Partners, a nonprofit that also receives aid from The North Face.
