This time of year, it seems like everyone is signing up for all the races. Well, don’t fear because there are still a number of great spring events that have spaces left. Read on to find eight marathons (most with shorter distance races as well!) that you might want to check out and add to your calendar this spring.
Shamrock Marathon
Virginia Beach, VA; March 20
There is still space in the marathon, half marathon and 8K. Plus there is Yuengling beer at the finish.
Bend Marathon and Half Marathon
Bend, OR; April 24
There will be Picky Bars at the finish line because the race is sponsored by them. Do you even need any more information??
Kentucky Derby Festival Marathon and Half
Louisville, KY; April 30
One big party—with options in both races still open.
Western Pacific Marathon, Half Marathon, 10K and 5K
Fremont, CA; April 30
Did you miss out on Big Sur like me? Try the Western Pacific Marathon instead. It’s primarily on a rail trail and the surroundings are absolutely gorgeous.
Flying Pig Marathon, Half Marathon
Cincinnati, OH; May 1
This race is legendary and for good reason—it’s a total party. It’s on my bucket list for sure!
Colorado Marathon, Half Marathon, 10K and 5K
Fort Collins, CO; May 1
The race is smaller, with a 1,700-person limit in the full, but it qualifies 16 to 18 percent of its participants for Boston each year. Plus, the weather will probably be fantastic!
Wisconsin Marathon, Half Marathon and 5K
Kenosha, WI; May 7
With 4,000 runners total, this is a nice-sized race and registration is open!
Vermont City Marathon and Relay
Burlington, VT; May 29
This race gets rave reviews. Registration is still open—and the weather should be perfect!
