Yvonne Bornman is from Pretoria, South Africa, and we asked her a few questions about running:
Why do you run?
To release tension, think, sweat and feel better about whatever is bringing me down. I also run for health reasons. Finally, to be humbled every time I take part in a race, by what an incredible group of people we are.
Describe your favorite place to run.
Living in suburbia means the scenery can be boring during a run. The Discovery Surfers Marathon held in East London, South Africa is magic! The route is along the rocks, sand and sea; two river crossings and just enough road to slog along. Love it!
What’s your go-to pre- or post-run meal?
Wow. Not so good at eating so early, but currently it is oats with a dash of cinnamon and honey (a teeny weeny portion). After a run, it depends on the mood but usually it’s bacon, two eggs, a slice of toast and a mega coffee.
What makes you a badass?
Having a bad ass? The fact that I aim not to quit, I finish what I start, I choose to run and I continue to challenge myself.
How will you celebrate Global Running Day?
By running, of course!
