Mercedes is from Buenos Aires, Argentina, and we asked her a few questions about running:
Why do you run?
I started running solely for weight-loss issues. I’ve dealt with (and still do) eating disorders and thought running would help me. But running provided a lot more. I started seeing a nutricionist and lost the weight. By being lighter I was also able to run faster, and nowadays running is my therapy and my way of dealing with anxiety or just a bad mood. It helps me be a better and more patient mother to my 4-year-old daughter.
Describe your favorite place to run.
I love dropping my little girl at school and running at a nearby park or along the riverside.
What’s your go-to pre- or post-run meal?
If I drop my girl at school first, I usually eat a piece of toast with jam. I have a yoghurt and another piece of toast when I get back. If I start running from my house, I usually go on an empty stomach and have breakfast later, because my run starts early (6 a.m.).
What makes you a badass?
Running in both freezing and hot temperatures, when there’s no one around at 6 a.m. in a cold winter morning and you feel great because you’re out there running and everyone else is sleeping.
How will you celebrate Global Running Day?
Might not sound very original—running, of course!!!!
