Women’s Running flew up to Portland, Ore., for our October issue cover shoot with Olympic gold medalist-turned-pro runner Gwen Jorgensen. We started in the studio for hair and makeup and styling, then got some studio shots with photographer Michael Schmitt. Then the crew headed to the Eastbank Esplanade along the Willamette River in downtown Portland for some shots running on a floating pier. Even on a 90-degree summer day, Gwen was a class act running back and forth on the pier in the sun (even with a bunch of onlookers taking a dip in the river!). The crew had a tough time keeping our balance on the pier and keeping our stuff from getting wet, so Gwen’s runs were even more impressive. We then drove over to The Fields Park for a few more run shots, where Gwen’s whole family joined us. Once her son, Stanley, woke up from his nap, we got a few shots of Gwen, Stanley and her husband, Patrick Lemieux, at Tanner Springs Park.
