When the idea of Sadie Hawkins Day (November 15) was launched in the Li’l Abner comic strip in 1937, the concept took hold. By 1939, more than 200 colleges across the country had “chases” (the original form of celebration). A footrace was held in which single women chased after a field of eligible bachelors in hopes of catching a husband or a date. LOL…history.
