If you’ve been racing for any length of
time, you probably have quite a collection of event t-shirts, sitting on a back
closet shelf or jammed in the bottom of a dresser drawer. Granted, the
finisher’s shirts from certain key events have a special nostalgia – but add up
years of racing and you might just tally enough t-shirts to clothe a small
army!
Some events, such as the Big Sur Marathon, award
a technical top perfect for future training. But the majority of races offer a
standard “unisex” (translation: men’s) over-sized hefty cotton tee, which many
of us are unlikely to ever wear.
I have a fairly dull method for managing my
race souvenirs – I set aside a few as bicycle chain cleaning rags and I donate
the remainder to Goodwill. There are several companies, such as Legacy Quilts
and the Campus Quilt Company, that offer the more creative solution of sewing
the shirts into cozy, quilted memorabilia.
What are some other interesting options for
an overstock of race t-shirts? Let us know in the comments section if you have
any fun ideas to share.
