Etiquette expert Lizzie Post, great-great-granddaughter of Emily Post, knows a thing or two about the rules of the road—and the descendant of the famous decorum diva is a runner too!

Q: There’s a Starbucks in the middle of my usual neighborhood run. A couple of times I’ve really needed to go, so I’ve used the coffee restrooms there. Is that wrong if I’m not buying anything?

I think it’s always best to ask permission, especially since these aren’t public facilities. That being said, if it were super busy and I really had to go, I might slink in without saying anything and then make a point later in the day to stop in and buy a drink or snack.
