“Hey, I was wondering if you are free to go out with me next Saturday?”
“Sure, sounds great! What did you have in mind?”
“Well… I was thinking I’d pick you up at 8:30 a.m. and we’d go on a great new running route I just discovered. I’ll bring a picnic and we can have lunch afterwards.”
Dreamily thinks to herself: I’ve just found my soulmate.
Want to spend some time with your special someone and still go for a run? Here are a few ideas.
Will Travel To Run
This is such a cool idea: Take another mode of transportation to a relatively nearby fun destination and start your run from there. For example, if you live in a city, drive to the train or metro. Hop aboard and get off in a new to you location for a fun run. Afterwards, grab smoothies or lunch and then hop the train back to your car. Another idea is simply driving to a new location and starting your run from the car. You are sure to strike up an interesting conversation about the new sights along the way.
Plan A Romantic Picnic
Imagine running with your significant other and having a picnic basket waiting for you at the end! Every runner loves to eat, so plan ahead and pack a brunch, lunch or early dinner with your favorite foods, a decadent dessert and maybe go a little wild and pack a bottle of wine (along with the water!). Don’t forget a blanket and extra warm clothes. Note: This date is especially perfect for shorter runs, cause let’s face it, if you are on a 20 mile run, you probably just want to go home and take a nap.
Scavenger Hunt
This will take some work and planning, but the end results are totally worth it!
- Plan your location.
- Beforehand, stash a note of encouragement or a love note in various locations along the route. Bonus points if it’s a gift (ie: a pair of new running sunglasses, running hat or lip balm. Just make sure you hide it really well so no one else finds the treasure!).
- Develop a list of creative clues and write them down for your partner.
- Give it to them right before the run and let the fun begin!
Bike + Run
You like to run, they like to bike. Plan a day where you run and they bike beside you. Add in talking and laughing and you’ve got a recipe for a fun morning or afternoon! Simple, easy and you get to spend time together!
Plan A Mini Runcation
This takes a budget and some planning, but plan a weekend getaway to a beautiful race. You don’t have to go to Europe—it can be just 1-2 hours away! Run the race together and then spend the rest of the weekend getting a couples massage and lounging in a bed and breakfast or quaint hotel.
Okay, now excuse me while plan something for my hubby and I! Have fun and happy running.
