On June 2, Nike released the Zoom Pegasus 33, the newest edition of their popular neutral running shoe.
“This design was about fine-tuning the details of what makes this shoe great,” explains Bret Schoolmeester, Senior Director of Nike Running Footwear. “We knew the Pegasus already provided a smooth ride and a perfect fit, but we wanted to make it even more responsive. We obsessed over it.”
I got a first-hand look at exactly how responsive and smooth the Zoom Pegasus 33 is during a Track & Field group skills training session on a rooftop track in NYC with Nike Run Club. The nearly 90-minute workout lead by Nike Run Club Coach, Julia Lucas, included technical track drills and so many strides I lost count. The workout was the perfect way to see exactly how the Nike Zoom Pegasus 33 performs and feels right out of the box and while running fast.
Here’s what you need to know about the Nike Zoom Pegasus 33 and what I thought about them after our 90-minute workout:
- It has twice as much Zoom Air. The Zoom Air pockets are now located in both the forefoot and heel of the shoe. This addition makes the shoe feel quicker than ever.
- The rubber on the outsole is segmented which allows for more flexibility.
- Flywire technology surrounds the midfoot and arch for an adaptive fit while the Fitsole sockliner conforms to the shape of your foot to provide comfort and underfoot support.
Right out of the box these shoes felt great. I didn’t have to adjust my shoe over and over again to get the right fit. The added Zoom Air in the forefoot was noticeable the first time my toes pushed off the ground. As someone who runs with a mid-foot strike, I appreciate the fact that I can now experience the benefits of the Zoom Air. During the strides the shoe provided my foot with plenty of cushioning, but still felt fast.
