The 2009 edition of the Fifth Third Riverbank Run –
the nation’s largest 25k road race – took place today in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
The weather was rainy but the spirits of competitors, volunteers and spectators
remained bright, as more than 17,000 participants took to the roads.
In the women’s division, Kenyan Genoveva Kigen ran
to first place on the podium, beating out Sally Meyerhoff of Arizona by twelve seconds. Magdalena Lewy
Boulet, who was featured in thisprevious blog post, and whose Harvest Grains
Salad recipe appears on page 34 of our May/June issue, raced her way to third.
Congratulations to everyone who ran the prestigious
event today!
