Our latest Women’s Running magazine Blogger On The Run believes in leaving everything on the pavement when she sets out to run a race. Theodora from Losing Weight In The City, recently solidified her No Guts, No Glory outlook with the shiny new half marathon P.R. (1:50!) she scored at Rock ‘n’ Roll USA’s race. Find out why Theodora started blogging in the first place and who she dreams of running with one day. . .
Women’s Running: How would you describe yourself?
Theodora: I’m a New Yorker who’s passionate about everything she does.
WR: How did you begin running?
T: I started running four years ago when I was trying to lose 50 pounds. I was doing intervals on the treadmill and realized that running outside was far more fun.
WR: What keeps you running and training?
T: I’m addicted to that feeling of accomplishment after training hard and achieving a PR.
WR: What type of run is your favorite?
T: I love the long run and that feeling of just zoning out by myself for a few hours or gabbing with a running buddy to pass the time. Also, the runner’s high after finishing a 20- or 22-miler is unparalleled.
WR: What’s your favorite race memory?
T: I ran the 2011 NYC Marathon with my friend (and fellow blogger) Tina by my side for the first 24 miles. I PR-ed by 40 minutes, got to run through five boroughs of my city (the best city in the world)–all with one of my good friends by my side. By the second half, my cheeks hurt from smiling so much!
WR: What do you hope your readers will get from reading your blog?
T: I’m honest about both my failures and my successes and honest that sometimes I’d rather have a few glasses of wine instead of going for a run. I went from being incredibly inactive to running marathons, and I hope readers will get a push to step outside their comfort zone.
WR: If you could run with any celebrity, who would you choose and why?
T: I would give my first-born to run with Will Ferrell. I’m slightly obsessed with him, and I’d love to hear him crack jokes for hours on a long run.
WR: How do you reward yourself for accomplishing your training/running goals?
T: I love to reward myself with a great deep tissue massage after a tough race.
WR: Best running advice you’ve received or given?
T: If you’re shooting for a PR in a race, it’s supposed to be uncomfortable. You’re pushing your body to do something it hasn’t done before.
WR: Anything else cool running or health related that you want to tell us about?
T: I ran with Ryan Hall the day before the NYC Marathon in 2011, and it was one of the coolest running experiences I’ve ever had – and likely will ever have!
