When you run, two of the most important muscles powering you forward are the big ones found in your legs. This probably doesn’t come as a shock—but what you might not realize is that the balance of strength and flexibility between the front (quadriceps) and back (hamstrings) is important for both performance and injury prevention.
A study from the University of Ibadan found that women in particular tend to be “quad dominant,” meaning that the front often does the lion’s share of the work.
Reverse this imbalance by stretching your quads and strengthening your hammies. Dead lifts, good mornings and leg curls are great for the latter.
