Every year before Halloween I come up with a running related costume. Then each and every year I don’t end up dressing up.
This year things are different. A little last minute shopping at target to find some
pink red shorts and I am what every runner at one time or another has been called.
When I told my soon to be 4-year old who I was dressing up as he said:
You are dressing up as gum?
No I’m dressing up as Forrest Gump.
You are dressing up as a forest? Are you going to look like a tree?
And that’s when I decided that this dressing up thing is going to be a new yearly tradition.
On sale Target shorts – $4
Men’s Beard – $8
Vintage Marine Corps Marathon shirt – $14
Being asked if I am going to look like a tree = priceless
That day, for no particular reason, I decided to go for a little run. So I ran to the end of the road. And when I got there, I thought maybe I’d run to the end of town. And when I got there, I thought maybe I’d just run across Greenbow County. And I figured, since I run this far, maybe I’d just run across the great state of Alabama. And that’s what I did. I ran clear across Alabama. For no particular reason I just kept on going. I ran clear to the ocean. And when I got there, I figured, since I’d gone this far, I might as well turn around, just keep on going. When I got to another ocean, I figured, since I’d gone this far, I might as well just turn back, keep right on going.
Dream big and run long my friends!!!
I hope your Halloween is spooktacular and if you happen to be trick or treating in a running related costume – tweet me a pic at @milepost!
