One company is changing the way that we eat in three simple steps. The Fresh 20 was founded in 2010 by Melissa Lanz, after she realized how much money her family could save if they just stopped ordering takeout. After searching online for recipes, she was online finding foods that required endless lists of ingredients and too much cooking time. So Lanz created the service she was looking for: healthy meals with less ingredients that make more (real) food.

The steps are simple:

  1. Buy 20 ingredients.
  2. Spend an hour on food prep.
  3. Cook throughout the week!

There are eight meal options (Classic, Vegetarian, Gluten Free, Paleo, Dairy Free, Kosher, For One and Lunch) and each Friday, a new five-meal plan is released to subscribers. Each plan provides a specific shopping list, with only 20 ingredients all totaling less than $100 (not including pantry staples, such as olive oil, garlic, etc.).

After the shopping trip, The Fresh 20 provides you with a list of what you can prep beforehand to make your weeknights simple. This includes making brown rice, blanching broccoli, and more. Your five meals throughout the week only take about 20 minutes to make with the time saved on meal prep!
