5 Things Women’s Running Loved This Week: Sept. 21, 2018

Our editors' top product picks for September 21, 2018.

Janji W’s Compass Singlet In Las Caras De Carrera, $40

The eye-catching print of this shirt—the name of which means “faces of the race”—was designed by Bolivian artist Claudia Gorena, who aspired to capture the emotions involved in training and competing (including joy, suffering, ritual, drama, exhaustion, seriousness and silliness) with this design. Made of 100-percent polyester tricot fabric, which makes it light as a feather and pleasantly breathable, this tank has a loose (but still slim) fit and a mesh back for added ventilation. As with all pieces of Janji gear, 5 percent of every sale goes toward clean water projects in countries around the world—now that’s an initiative we can get behind.

Trishmoves Salted Dark Chocolate Cherry Running Bar, $2.50

As a runner, it can be hard to find a protein bar that’s healthy and actually tastes good. But Trishmoves’ Salted Dark Chocolate Cherry bar does the trick, providing a winning flavor combination with a 4:1 carbohydrate-to-protein ratio. With 200 calories per bar, it’s a simple way to fuel up before a run or refuel mid-workout, packing a sweet and savory taste of which our testers didn’t easily tire.

Nutiva Organic Shelled Hempseed, $10

On busier days, it can be difficult to make sure you’re getting enough protein—especially when you run out of time to meal-prep. In these instances, it’s helpful to have a scoop of protein handy that you can toss into a blender while mixing a smoothie or sprinkle over a salad as an added nutritional touch. Nutiva’s Organic Hempseed steps in as a solid protein substitute, with 20 percent of one’s daily recommended protein included in each serving (and eight servings total included in each 10-oz. bag). At just $10, it’s an affordable option with real health benefits for those in need of added protein.

Gu Hydration Drink Tabs, $52 For Box Of 8

Each tube of Gu’s Hydration Drink Tabs includes 12 tablets that dissolve quickly into a 16-oz. glass of water, providing the flavored hydration runners crave after every intense workout. With one tablet per serving and four flavors (orange, strawberry lemonade, tri-berry and lemon lime) to choose from, it’ll be difficult to find an excuse not to reach your water consumption goals for the day.

Under Armour Crossback Clutch, $50

This medium-impact sports bra by Under Armour has become one of our favorites for two important reasons: 1. It really does absorb impact while running, and 2. It has a built-in pocket for your phone, key or whatever other small(ish) object you need to bring along. Though this sports bra does feature some light padding (an occasionally contentious issue among women runners), the pads stay in place during repeated rinse cycles, meaning you won’t have to struggle to pull them out and shove them back in before and after washing if you choose to use them.
