Are all the choices you’re making benefiting your mind and body? Dr. Larry Goldfarb, DC, CCSP, founder of the Medical Wellness Center of New Jersey, has provided four simple things that anyone of any age can do to live longer and healthier. Dr. Goldfarb has worked with everyone from athletes, to fitness enthusiasts and the general public. He and his team of specialize in nutrition pain management (chronic and acute). Below are his four go-to tips he tells everyone.
Keep an eye on your neck circumference.
Having a neck circumference larger than 17” for men and 16” for women increases your risk of developing sleep apnea. The extra weight increases fat tissue—especially around the base of the tongue and airway lining—which is the leading cause of snoring, especially for back sleepers. Studies have shown that losing weight can effectively reduce and even eliminate sleep apnea.
Add turmeric to your daily diet.
Turmeric is the main spice in curry and is arguably one of the most powerful anti-inflammatory spices available. It decreases inflammation, has a powerful antioxidant that fights cancer-causing free radicals by reducing or preventing the damage they can cause, helps ease pain of osteoarthritis, promotes healthy digestion by easing upset stomach, bloating and gas, and may prevent buildup of plaque in arteries. Turmeric needs to be taken daily at dosages of up to 2500 mg per day.

Remove artificial sweeteners from your diet altogether.
Not only do they lead to weight gain, but studies have shown they spike your blood sugar level, increase your risk for developing type 2 diabetes, are a neurotoxin which causes a myriad of neurological issues, and may increase risk for coronary heart disease. Babies and growing children should never be exposed to these potentially harmful agents as they may damage developing brain tissue.

Don’t ignore any chronic pain.
If you experience pain for more than 3 consecutive weeks, consult with a pain management specialist immediately. Pain is a symptom that tells you that there is something wrong! Treating the symptom rather than looking for the cause can lead to more serious complications and ultimately reduce the quality of your life drastically.
