7 Bar Soaps for a Head-to-Toe Clean

When it comes time to suds up after a run, lathering up with a bar of soap will help you ditch the hefty plastic bottles.

Sometimes all you have time for is a quick dry shampoo refresh after a sweaty run. But when the stars align in your schedule, there is no better feeling than getting truly, squeaky clean. Nowadays you can get your whole routine done with bar soap in the form of shampoo, body wash, conditioner, face wash, shaving cream, and, yes, even deodorant. Bar soaps are making a comeback as people are looking for more and more ways use less plastic, and they go above and beyond the black and white soap you may remember. These are just a few of the ones we like.

Lush Honey I Washed My Hair Shampoo | $11.95

This bar holds up to the sudsy clean of a liquid soap, but doesn’t weigh hair down (hello, fewer washes). Fresh, fair-trade honey is slowly released as you use it, leaving a light, sweet scent that lasts for days. Bonus: Lush shampoo bars have saved 22.5 million plastic bottles from being produced since 2012.

Kiehl’s “Ultimate Man” Body Scrub Soap | $15

We hope you can get past the “Ultimate Man” description because this is a really nice bar of exfoliating soap (just ask all the female reviewers who stole it from their husbands). Bran and oatmeal are used to get skin so soft (perfect for callused feet) and the light citrus scent is nice for any gender. Note: Don’t use as a face soap as it is far too abrasive.

Dr. Bronner’s All-One Hemp Almond Pure-Castile Bar Soap | $4.79

Dr. Bronner’s All-One soaps are safe to clean just about anything (hair, dishes, laundry, pets), but we love it as a good-old-fashioned body wash. Scrub off mud from the trail while nourishing your skin with coconut, jojoba, olive, and hemp oils.

Buff City Soap Narcissist Shave Soap | $10

This hand-crafted shave soap gives an incredibly smooth and close shave, without leaving you red with razor burn. The kaolin clay is what allows it to foam and lather so you won’t miss that old aerosol bottle of goop. Plus the peach, raspberry, and patchouli scent is delightful.
