This Year’s Best Running Pants

Looking like a runner doesn’t mean dressing how you think a runner should dress—it’s finding the right apparel for your body that allows you the most freedom and comfort to run. One of the biggest hang-ups in women’s apparel: running pants! That’s why we spent hours on the roads and trails running in more than 100 products to bring you the 2018 Women’s Running Bra and Bottom Awards. We are giving you a starting point for finding your next favorite piece of running apparel so you can hit the road with confidence and style.

2XU Elite MCS Compression Tight G1, $120

Best for: Smaller frames with narrow hips

If you want to look and feel like a “badass,” pick up a pair of these 2XU compression leggings. With contoured support on the inside of the fabric and graduated compression to help improve blood flow and reduce muscle damage, these tights help combat the dreaded “thigh jiggle.” They also helped one tester’s legs feel fresh during a hard run. Another great part about these tights? They’re made with UPF 50 to protect against sun damage.

Gore R3 Women 7/8 Tights, $70

Best for: Small- to medium-sized frames with curvy hips

Hitting right below the calf, these tights had testers raving about the comfort and the thin but high-quality material (that’s not see-through, most importantly). Not only did they feel lightweight, but they also had a waistband that fit curvier hips and stayed put—without having to rely on the drawstring.

Day/Won You Got This 3/4 Compression Legging, $84

Best for: Larger frames with curvier hips

While you may not be into making a statement on your run, these leggings may give you the extra motivation you need to make it to the finish line with the phrase “You Got This” down one leg (you can also snag ones that say “Can’t Touch This”). With sizes that range from 0–5XL, we love that these tights can fit any shape. Our testers dug the soft fabric and mobility of these leggings, and the high waistband helps keep everything in place.

Lululemon Fast and Free 7/8 Tight II Nulux 25”, $128

Best for: Small to large frames

These tights are “fierce,” as one of our testers put it. Not only are they super cute (sweating in style, yes please!), but these tights also have enough storage (two side pockets and five in the back) to stash your credit cards, phone, keys and anything else you may want to bring with you. Made with Lululemon’s own proprietary fabric, these tights are sweat-wicking and quick to dry.

Old Navy Mid-Rise 7/8-Length Mesh-Trim Leggings, $33

Best for: Medium to larger frames, with sizes up to XXL

Wear these breathable and lightweight leggings to yoga or hit the pavement running—the versatility and style of these bottoms scored major points with our testers. If you’re looking for a budget-friendly pair of leggings, these are a must-have.

Brooks Greenlight Capri, $70

Best for: Small to large frames

These higher-waisted capris scored major points for style and comfort among testers. Featuring built-in pockets that won’t bounce and a supportive fit, our testers loved that the stylish capris stayed in place while on the run. As one tester noted, “The technical fabric holds everything in and keeps you running comfortably for miles.”
