5 Soft Apparel Picks To Wear On Rest And Recovery Days

Treat yourself on rest day and lounge around in style. Even better? Some of this apparel is made to handle your workouts, too!

There are just some days where you want to slip on something soft, throw your hair in a top knot and take it easy. And you absolutely should! Rest and recovery are a vital part of training and can help prevent overtraining and injury.

So, what are the perfect, soft and flowy clothes for these occasions, you may ask? We did some research—I should note that I work at home so I live in loungewear and consider myself an authority on the subject—to find the best apparel that just makes you feel relaxed and comfortable.

Yala Audrey Pencil Pants, $86

These are guaranteed to replace any pair of sweat pants you own. Not only are these pants super soft and super stretchy, but they are stylish, meaning you can wear them out to brunch or the store without knowing that you are, in fact, lounging. These are my new go-to pair of pants from doing everything from working to running errands to date night. Even better? Yala’s clothes are made out of natural materials such as organic cotton and bamboo, so they are earth-friendly! Everything has a relaxed vibe and pairs perfectly together, making putting together a comfy outfit a breeze (without looking like a schlub).

Oiselle Lux Henley Tank, $48

I love when running shirts don’t look quite like running shirts so I can live in them daily. This is the perfect warm-weather tank and can be worn for almost any occasion. If you have not tried Oiselle’s Lux fabric, I recommend doing so immediately. It is super soft and yet very strong, meaning you won’t wear out your favorite shirt from too many wears and washes. They have a whole bundle of clothes in the fabric—underwear, sweatshirts, track pants and more—in case you want to wrap your entire body in Lux (you will).

Ann Taylor LOFT Lou & Grey Drawstring Cardigan, $69.50

If you didn’t know that Ann Taylor LOFT sells loungewear, well, you’re welcome. This sweater is part of their Lou & Grey line and is the perfect comfy and casual cardigan for any rest day. Another thing to note is they also have a bodysuit, tights and crop top that would make the perfect gym outfit, so LOFT has definitely expanded their offerings with this line. While you wouldn’t think to shop their for your rest day, it is time to give the store another look.

Athleta Short Sleeve Criss Cross Dress, $89

Thanks to Athleta, sweatshirt dresses are now a thing. A very good thing. This dress is super easy to throw on and go without much fuss, either alone or over a pair of soft leggings. It can be dressed up with some cute sandals or down with a pair of running shoes (not the ones you run in, however!) for almost any occasion. The description shares it is “for when you want to throw on a sweatshirt and call it a day—or an outfit” so you know this was made to be lived in.

Lucy Full Potential Short, $59

In my quest to find shorts that actually cover and fit my thighs, I discovered these perfect shorts. (Even better? They also come in a 7″ inseam.) These shorts are soft and stylish and can be worn on the run and then right into your recovery. They are flowy—even on me!—and make for the perfect shorts to work and play in. Win-win!
