Running Gear Coming At You In 2017 From Outdoor Retailer

Running pants that look exactly like jeans? Shirts in even softer fabrics? See what you can expect in the world of running apparel in 2017.

Chances are, running isn’t the only thing you do. From yoga to swimming, coffee dates to running errands, work to happy hour—women especially fit a lot into a day. And it makes life much easier when your clothes can keep up. After spending days wandering the aisles of the Summer Outdoor Retailer trade show in Salt Lake City to see what’s on the horizon for 2017, we discovered that clothing designers agree!

Traditional running brands like Brooks, New Balance and Saucony continue to incorporate design elements, fabrics and patterns that transcend running, while staying true to their running roots. We can’t wait to wear Saucony’s Ridge Runner Hoodie ($105–it’s available now!), a cozy blend of wool, polyester and nylon that you can rock with tights and boots after wearing it to stay warm on chilly run. Another piece you can buy now is the New Balance Shadow Jacket ($140), with a functional mix of moto-styling and wicking fabric. Brooks Ghost Crop ($120—pictured below) comes in bold patterns inspired by the colors of Morocco and is made of an incredibly lightweight, stretch-woven fabric that excels in hot and humid conditions. In addition to looking good and performing well, they have bonded seams and a tummy-flattering waistband. Look for more versatile pieces in their Urban Oasis line.

Everyday Wear

The North Face is debuting a running romper—really! The Runagade Onesie ($70) is made from quick-drying technical fabric, has a pocket and reflective accents and forever solves the problem of your shirt migrating upwards. And yes, you can also wear it for your post-run dance party. If blue jeans are your thing, Lucy’s Indigo Collection Run Tights ($128—pictured below) have you covered. These look just like your favorite skinny jeans, but are made to perform on the run.

Staying Cool

Cooling fabrics continue to grow in popularity as well. We tested the new Gauge Tee by Outdoor Research ($59—pictured below) and really did notice a welcomed difference. Made from a Polartec fabric that is intended to retain just enough moisture so your body can cool naturally, it also has silver to prevent smelly bacteria growth. And Tasc Performance makes their luxuriously soft apparel from bamboo. The Women’s Base Layer LS ($80—pictured below) is blended with wool for odor control and natural UPF 50+ protection.

With even more fabrics that protect from the sun, block odors (a working out to going out essential!) and dry quickly to blurred style lines between athletic and lifestyle apparel and continued construction refinements (we love flat seams), shopping to run is become a sport of it’s own!
