Adidas And B.A.A. Introduce Boston Marathon® RunBase

Adidas and the B.A.A. will bring runners a central place to celebrate and honor the Boston Marathon.

Runners will have a central place to celebrate the iconic Boston Marathon year-round.

Adidas, the official apparel sponsor of the Boston Marathon, collaborated with the Boston Athletic Association (B.A.A.) to launch the first-ever Boston Marathon® RunBase, a space for runners to meet, train together, learn about elite athletes competing on Marathon Monday and clean up post-run. The exclusive Adidas community, in partnership with Marathon Sports, will open later this month. The innovative idea is the first of its kind in the country and will serve as an accessible home base for area runners in and around Boston. The location sits at the 26-mile mark of the marathon course. The 2,000-square-foot facility will include lockers and showers for runners, as well as a never-ending celebration of America’s oldest marathon, complete with banners and inspirational displays curated from B.A.A. archives.

“RunBase is a one-of-a-kind resource for runners based in and traveling to Boston,” says Mikal Peveto, global director of running innovation at Adidas. “Adidas is taking its partnership with the Boston Athletic Association to the next level with the help of Marathon Sports to let runners experience the best of our brand and the spirit of the greatest race year-round.”

RunBase will serve as a hub of information for runners, including footwear from the brand’s popular Boost family as well as brand apparel. Training and nutrition advice will be available, and elites will visit the space for speaking engagements, as well as to offer their expertise to curious runners. Inside the walls, athletes will find photos, exhibits and old race bibs, collateral and jackets commemorating the last 119 years of the Boston Marathon. Displays will change with the season, keeping content fresh and new for visiting and local runners. RunBase Central, which will include four interactive screens, will showcase key moments in Marathon Monday history. A 10-foot, 3D topographic race map will greet customers as they enter the space. For the first time, a digital database of every Boston Marathon finisher’s race results will also be available at RunBase Central. Runners can also experience the entire prestigious marathon route via the official treadmill, which simulates every part of the course with visuals and varying terrain.

Adidas has been a partner of the B.A.A. and Boston Marathon since 1988, and Grilk says this is a natural extension of that long-time relationship. Boston is the first of several RunBase locations in the works across the U.S. The RunBase initiative will play a key role in Adidas’ 2020 plan to maintain a top-notch presence in main U.S. cities. Outside of the country,  there exist six RunBase locations in Tokyo, Moscow, London, São Paulo, Prague and the Nordics.

Boston Marathon® RunBase will be located at 855 Boylston Street and open daily from 10 a.m. (9 a.m. during race weekend) to 8 p.m.
