Ladies, we have a lot to celebrate on this fine Monday! Get out your party hats and throw your hands up in the air for Girl Power!
Saturday marked the 40th Anniversary of Title IX, the federal law granting women equal opportunity to participate in sports resulting in collegiate scholarships. Over the past four decades, we’ve made huge strides in the athletic world. In 1972 only 300,000 girls in America played high school sports–now over 3 million do!
It’s no doubt Title IX helped pave the way for the amazing women competing in the 2012 U.S. Track & Field Olympic Trials, which kicked off last Thursday. The results from these races determine who will head to the Summer Games with the top three in each race winning a spot on the U.S. team.

Here are just a few of the girl-power highlights. . .
Lolo Jones took third place in the women’s 100 meter hurdle race despite a self-described “ugly performance.” She reflected on the past year saying, “I was filled with doubt and fear. It’s been a constant uphill battle, and to have the confidence to get through this…I’m just thrilled, thrilled to have another shot.”

After suffering a heartbreaking fourth-place finish at the Olympic Marathon Trials, Amy Hastings was determined to become an Olympian,in the 10,000 meter race. She accomplished that goal on Friday, sprinting to through the line to come in first.

The women’s 100 meter dash stands to make history due to a dead heat tie for the third and final spot on the Olympic team. Athletes Jeneba Tarmoh and Allyson Felix both finished the race with a time of 11.068 seconds. The winner will be chosen through a coin toss or run off–athletes’ choice.

It’s no doubt – this weekend was an exciting one for female athletes and we’re proud to be part of the crew! Sports make us feel strong, confident and able to take on the world! Girl Power Unite!
