DOWN IN THE VALLEY

Nothing says wine country like Napa Valley. For a true taste of the vineyard lifestyle, head to the San Francisco Bay Area for the Napa to Sonoma Wine Country Half Marathon. The 13.1-mile race starts at Cuvaison Estate Wines, famous for its elegant chardonnays and pinot noirs. Racers wind through thousands of acres of scenic ranches and vineyards to finish in the heart of downtown Sonoma. Those who like to keep their mileage in the single digits can sign up for the GunBunFun- Run 5k which follows the final 3.1 miles of the half-marathon course. Make the race a weekend affair by enjoying the wine-themed welcome reception, expo, pre-race dinner and post-race music festival.

GLASS HALF FULL

Think fast marathons and red wines don’t mix? The Wineglass Marathon will prove you wrong. Held in New York’s Finger Lakes region, this race is famous for speedy finishing times. The  at course starts in the town of Bath and weaves along scenic country roads to end in Corning. Run the full 26.2 miles or opt for the half marathon. Either way, you’ll receive fabulous registration schwag, including a handmade glass medal, running shirt and wine flute. And what better way to toast your new personal record than with complimentary champagne?

I THINK DECAN(T)!

Who doesn’t love cool weather varietals—or temperate race-day conditions? You’ll find both at the North County Wine Run. Minutes from Portland, Ore., lies Clark County, Wash., a lush region that’s becoming a hotspot for wine enthusiasts. The autumn event includes a half marathon and 10k. The races offer views of grape vines and fields of lavender; on a clear day, you can even spot Mount Saint Helens in the distance. Enjoy Italian fare, jazz music and local vinos at the post-race party held alfresco on the gorgeous grounds of the Rusty Grape Vineyard.
