Being half of a power couple is no easy task. But Asics-sponsored runner Sara Hall makes her eight-year marriage to Olympic marathoner Ryan Hall look as effortless as her speedy stride. Long-known for her winning ways in cross country and steeplechase, Hall stepped up her race distance last fall, winning her very first half marathon, the Healdsburg Wine Country Half, in 1:14:33. Hall also handles operations for the Hall Steps Foundation, a nonprofit she and Ryan co-founded to fund mentoring programs for at-risk youth and fight poverty through better health.

“My husband is my favorite training partner, but I also like to run with my miniature Siberian huskies, Kai and Dash.”

“My gym bag has a lot of shoes— I like to run in the lightest shoe I can get away with. I also carry both a lacrosse ball for self-massage, Cytomax energy chews and my Oakley Half-Jacket sunglasses.”

“I have a sweet tooth and enjoy something sugary after workouts, like candy corn or an ice cream cone.”

“For a favorite piece of gear, I would have to say Asics Thermopolis LT Capris. They are soft and cozy, but still breathe.”

“Ryan and I often have protein pancakes for breakfast and especially before a race. We make our mix, then add Cake Batter Muscle Milk—I look forward to them and they rest well on my stomach.”

“Relax and roll is my mantra. A race pace may feel fast at first, but if I relax into it and still keep my legs rolling quickly, it helps me to focus on the race.”
