Dawna Stone
Dawna is the founder, president and publisher of Women’s Running magazine. An Ironman finisher, she enjoys all sports but says her favorite is running after her 1-year-old Kaelie. Dawna frequently travels to speak to men and women across the nation about health and well-being. Dawna had an interesting career before founding Women’s Running. At 33 she was the Chief Marketing Officer for a $700-million publicly traded company, directing the marketing activities for over 68 locations nationwide. Dawna’s other experience includes:
- Senior Vice President of the Active Sports Network, then a 200-person dot com company that is still thriving today with over 300 employees
- President and General Manager of a $20-million sports nutrition company
- Strategy Consultant for Deloitte Consulting where she advised senior level executives at Fortune 500 companies
- Financial Analyst for Wall Street investment bank Morgan Stanley
Dawna earned her MBA at The Anderson School at UCLA and her B.S. from the University of California, Berkeley.
Kristin Harrison
Kristin Harrison is the editor in chief of Women’s Running magazine. A runner in high school and college, Harrison got hooked on long-distance events after completing her first marathon with Team In Training in honor of her 26th birthday. A host of races and three months of physical therapy to loosen up an extremely tight IT band later, Harrison also competes in triathlon and practices yoga as forms of cross-training. An avid traveler and adventurer, Harrison’s gone skydiving over Miami with the Army’s Golden Knights team, learned to surf in Costa Rica and spent four days hiking to Machu Picchu in Peru. A former staffer at National Geographic Traveler and Where magazine, Harrison freelances for The Washington Post’s travel section and other national publications.
Jeana Durst
Jeana Durst is the senior editor of Women’s Running. During her six years writing and editing for various magazine and newspapers, she has always found pounding out the miles to be a great antidote to stressful deadlines. A few years ago, her colleagues convinced her to try moving her runs from the treadmill to the road. Several 5ks and one very muddy adventure race later, she’s hooked. Now she’s working on her speed and learning how strength training complements running. In addition to running intervals, Durst likes to hit the road with her overly energetic 110-pound dog.
Tiffany Connors
Tiffany Connors is the assistant editor for Women’s Running. Since ditching the bustle of New York City for the heat of St. Petersburg, Fla., Connors has completed a 5k and 10k, and hopes to finish her first half-marathon by the end of the year. In addition to writing for HowStuffWorks, she is the television blog editor for the New York Post. Her hobbies include eating.
Jenn Weede
Jenn Weede is an editor-at-large for Women’s Running. Jenn’s need to be with nature led her to abandon her ambitious publishing career in Manhattan nine years ago in favor of sharing her passion for the outdoors. Stitches, casts, West Nile virus, giardia, altitude sickness-it’s all part of the job, and well worth it to hike tundra in Iceland, heli-board the Rocky Mountains, surf in Baja and scale Spain’s highest mountain. A freelance writer based in Crestone, Colorado, Weede has also covered the great outdoors for numerous national publications including Women’s Health, National Geographic Adventure, Outside, Women Outside, Skiing and Ski Press.
Michele Stone
Michele Stone is the director of marketing at Women’s Running. Michele is a strong proponent of getting kids active and healthy, and she can be spotted almost daily at the soccer field, basketball court, or baseball field cheering on her daughter, Taylor and her son, Tyson.
Ellen Heise
Ellen Heise is the marketing manager at Women’s Running. Although she is a Tampa native, Ellen has done her fair share of traveling including frequent trips to Colorado and even a stint living and studying overseas in Australia. She loves sea life and says if she weren’t working at Women’s Running, she would be rescuing whale sharks for a living.
Kelly Baker
Kelly Baker is the Circulation Manager at Women’s Running Magazine. In addition to reading, traveling, and cheering on her son Ryan’s football and soccer teams, Kelly is passionate about outdoor activities – especially when shared with family and friends. Scuba diving, snorkeling and boating top her list of favorites. In spring and summer she explores the waters of Tampa Bay, the Gulf of Mexico, and numerous fresh water rivers and springs. When it turns cooler, you’ll find her zooming around Central Florida on an ATV with her husband, son, and step sons following closely behind.
