This week runDisney announced the addition of a new, out-of-this-world event to its race series. After the success of the inaugural Star Wars Half Marathon at Disneyland in Anaheim, Calif., this past January, The Force is now coming to Disney World in Florida.
The Star Wars Half Marathon—The Dark Side weekend will take place April 14-16, 2016. The 13.1-mile course will wind through Epcot, Disney’s Animal Kingdom and Disney’s Hollywood Studios before finishing at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex. Besides the half marathon, the weekend will also involve a kids’ race, a 5K and a 10K. For those who love to log miles and get a little extra bling, there will be a Star Wars Dark Side Challenge: If runners complete the 10K and the half marathon, they can receive a Death Star-themed medal.
However, this isn’t the end of the cool medal frenzy. Disneyland will host a companion race, the Stars Wars Half Marathon—The Light Side, in January 2016. Runners who complete both half marathons as part of the Kessel Run Challenge will receive a “Coast to Coast” medal inspired by the Millennium Falcon starship. (What?!)
If you want to embrace the dark side, registration opens Sept. 22.
