Project Start is a running initiative created by Candice Huffine in collaboration with Women’s Running to encourage and inspire all women to lace up and just START!

Who Is Candice?

Candice Huffine is best known for her work as a model, breaking barriers for plus-size women by appearing in high fashion publications, such as V Magazine, Italian Vogue, and being the first plus-size woman in the Pirelli Calendar. Candice has shot with major fashion photographers like Steven Meisel and has been featured on the runways of New York Fashion Week for designers like Sophie Theallet. She starred in the body positive Lane Bryant campaigns #ImNoAngel and #PlusisEqual. She has also been featured in American Vogue and Glamour magazine.

Recently, Candice has been very public about her journey getting started with running. In March 2016, she had completed the New York City Half Marathon, her first. She shared her entire run during the Brooklyn Half Marathon for Glamour Magazine on Snapchat, her second-ever half marathon and formal run, in May 2016. Candice also shares regular snaps of herself all over New York City participating in runs with the November Project NY tribe along with her husband, Matt Powers, and their superstar dachshund puppy, @jerrybrows.

Who Is Project Start?

Candice will be joined by an impressive roster of fellow Project Start ambassadors:

These accomplished women have come together with Candice to remind you throughout your journey that you got this, girl!

Throughout the months of September and October, the Project Start ambassadors are sharing their stories through a video series describing how this diverse group of women all got their start with running. If they can do it, so can you!

How To Get Involved

Candice has created a running club for Project Start on Strava, the GPS app to track distance and speed, and to connect with others in the running community. It’s been an imperative tool in her training.

“I find a reassuring and inspiring to see your progress along the way! Within the club we can share tips, encouragement, and see that we are truly all in this together!” says Candice.

The Project Start running club can be searched within the Strava app under “Clubs” or found here.

The @psyougotthis page will be sharing actual running tips for getting started, motivation, and the stories of inspiring women. Women can share their journey with the ladies of Project Start through using hashtag #psyougotthis and by tagging the page as well! We can’t wait to hear more about the positive effect running has on women around the world!

The official video series for Project Start will run until Friday, Oct. 21, and culminate in an event at the end of October/beginning of November—stay tuned for details!
For more information and to join in, keep up with @psyougotthis, @candicehuffine, and @womensrunningmagazine on Instagram to follow the series, and share your snaps using the hashtag #psyougotthis!
