THIS MONTH’S TRAINING TIP SPONSORED BY polar

Train safely and effectively with these summer workout tips from Jennifer Cohen, fitness expert and celebrity trainer:

  1. Drink water before you feel thirsty; at least 15-20 minutes before starting your workout, and after every 15 minutes during the workout. This will keep you hydrated through the summer heat.
  2. Avoid the hottest hours of the day by working out in the morning or evening. If you find you have more energy during the morning or evening, use it!
  3. No matter what time of day you workout, if you go outside wear sunscreen SPF 15 or higher. Even overcast days can damage your skin, and a sunburn makes the next workout harder than it has to be!
  4. Get bikini ready by burning extra calories throughout your daily routine. For every two hours of sitting take 15 minutes to get on your feet. A walk around the building, climbing stairs, cleaning up etc. can burn 50-100 calories in 15 minutes.
  5. Sweat is NOT an indicator of how hard you’re working, especially in the summer. Use a heart rate monitor and stay in your zone to make sure you get the most out of your workout time.
