Dear Running Shoes,
Words can’t begin to express how much you mean to me. You are always there, waiting patiently by the door when I need you. Thank you for carrying my feet hundreds of miles through breathtaking trails, gritty roads, fast paces on the track and the treadmill that I no longer dread.
There was the feeling of utter joy when I first lovingly took you out of the box and laced up your sturdy, colorful laces. Stilettos, espadrilles and flip flops are fun, but you—you truly make my heart soar with happiness and possibility. Through ups and downs, injury and victory, you gave me hope and promise about our extraordinary journey together.
Running shoes, you are the ultimate best friend. I’ve taken you down the street, across the ocean and half way around the world. We’ve experienced running by the Eiffel Tower at dawn and beauty of the Grand Tetons at sunset. Remember those priceless moments? Yeah, they mean so much to me, too.
I know there comes a time when you begin to age, the cushion starts to fade and my body signals that it is time to let you go. Thank you for pushing me through that crazy, excruciating workout we both remember, so well. Most importantly, I’ll never, ever forget when my tears dripped down on you after I ran a personal best in the marathon.
My friend, the moment has come to let you go and I know we wish each other well. Off you go to help someone in need, who is dying to try out your awesomeness. I am developing a new relationship with a pretty special pair of shoes and I’m looking forward to lots of fresh, new adventures.
Oh, the places we’ll go!
Onward my faithful friend and I wish you well.
Love,
Your Runner
