As we witnessed at the NYRR Millrose Games earlier this month, women runners are on a roll this year—and the USATF Indoor Championships held February 22-24 at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex in Staten Island, N.Y., only cemented that reality. Shelby Houlihan, who dominated many conversations about track and field in 2018, earned her ninth national title on February 24 in the 2-mile, which she finished in 9:31.38. One day earlier, Houlihan lost the 1-mile to Bowerman Track Club runner Colleen Quigley, who earned her first national title with a winning time of 4:29.47. Like Houlihan, Ajee Wilson earned her ninth national title this weekend too—but instead of tackling her go-to 800-meter distance, Wilson hopped into the 1000m race, breaking the tape in 2:34.71.
