Marie Alojado is from Esparto, Calif., USA, and we asked her a few questions about running:
Why do you run?
I started running in 2012 and signed up for my first half marathon. Each year since then I’ve been pushing myself with more halfs, getting faster times, and then last year I ran in my first marathon at the Honolulu Marathon. My mother has been battling cancer, and I started to run for more than just myself. I ran for my mom; my Grandma who suffered a stroke; my boys to show them what hard work and discipline can do; and my husband, my rock—he has supported me through my running career. I put in for the London Marathon next year 2017, I hope I get in!
Describe your favorite place to run.
Honolulu was amazing—next to the beach, early morning before the sunrise. My other favorite is San Francisco, down Embarcadero Street towards Fisherman’s Wharf.
What’s your go-to pre- or post-run (or both!) meal?
My pre-run is a half of a wheat bagel with almond butter, and half of a banana. Sometimes I just eat a Luna Bar with peanut butter.
What makes you a badass?
I run when my boys are in school. I run between 40-60 miles a month and I work as a Intensive Care Registered Nurse for the night shift. I am a mom of two boys, 9 and 6 years old. I am a wife. If that’s not tiring already, I sign up for half and full marathons to keep me motivated!
How will you celebrate Global Running Day?
I run with a SF-based running crew called Concrete Runners. I am part of their first season, and we are now on season three! We have grown so much, and we have a running event on Global Running Day!
