Karien Potgieter is from Kimberley, South Africa, and we asked her a few questions about running:
Why do you run?
How can I not run?! It makes me feel fit and strong, helps me to relieve stress and acts as my reset button and me time. I’d be a sad, frustrated momma without it!
Describe your favorite place to run.
I usually run on a game farm just outside of town. It’s safe, beautiful, almost traffic-free, and game sightings are guaranteed. It’s my happy place!
What’s your go-to pre- or post-run meal?
I can’t stomach more than a banana (at most) before a run. Post-run I almost always grab some muesli, plain yoghurt, cinnamon, honey and cacao nibs—man, it’s good!
What makes you a badass?
Never making excuses. Dark? Cold? Rainy? _____________? (Fill in the blank.) There’s never a bad time to run.
How will you celebrate Global Running Day?
With a run, of course!
