Manuela Schar broke the tape this morning at the 2018 TCS New York City Marathon with a final time of 1:50:27, earning her second title and winning for the second year in a row. Tatyana McFadden, Schar’s fiercest competition in today’s race, finished second in 1:50:48, narrowly missing the sixth NYC Marathon title that she was aspiring to earn today.

Meanwhile in the men’s race, spectators watched as the top three finishers crossed the line with a one-second gap between each athlete. Twenty-year-old Daniel Romanchuk—who won the 2018 Chicago Marathon men’s wheelchair division last month—placed first in 1:36:21, becoming the first American to win the men’s wheelchair division at the NYC Marathon and the youngest athlete to win the title in the division’s history. One second later, 2017 NYC Marathon champion Marcel Hug of Switzerland crossed the finish line, followed one second later by David Weir of Great Britain.
