Kate is not the only Middleton in the spotlight lately. Pippa Middleton grabbed some attention after completing her first marathon.

Kate’s younger sister ran the Tusk trust’s Safaricom Marathon in Kenya on June 27. The course, which took place on dirt roads, savannah plains, riverbanks and woodland, was not easy. Nor were the conditions—temperatures rose to 86 degrees and the altitude was 5,550 feet. Despite the weather and tough course, Pippa ran a seriously impressive sub-4 marathon! Her time of 3:56 placed her 30th out of 200 runners.

“I decided that a marathon was a ‘life box’ that needed ticking and this year was my time,” she told HELLO Magazine, a sentiment many first time marathoners can relate to.

When she hit rough spots along the course that made her want to quit, Pippa thought “of the schoolchildren, the rhinos, elephants and lions, the incredible Tusk projects— the reason I was doing this.” The Tusk Project initiates and funds conservation, community development and environmental education programs across Africa. All runners in the Safaricom Marathon were required to fundraise for the cause to gain entry.

This isn’t Pippa’s first time racing though. An avid athlete, she has competed in many running, cycling, swimming and cross-country skiing events. She has not said whether she will run another marathon, but, just like many marathoners, the allure of scoring a new PR may draw her to 26.2 again.
