The women’s semifinal matches of the U.S. Open take place this evening. Serena Williams will take on Italy’s Roberta Vinci, while number-two ranked Simona Halep will face Flavia Pennetta. We know that these incredible athletes need endurance to stay strong through all three sets of a match. But how many miles do they actually cover when moving around the court?

IBM crunched the numbers to find out. The differences between players are surprising. For example, Halep covers twice as many miles than Williams during a match. But we’re impressed that everyone runs over 2.5 miles on the court. Challenge yourself on your run today by trying to match at least one of these athletes’ mileage.
