Another reason to pack up your flip-flops for the season? A study in the Journal of the American Podiatric Medical Association tested plantar pressure—which can lead to the painful plantar fasciitis—for women wearing athletic shoes, flip-flops and in bare feet.
The flip-flops were only slightly better at protecting feet from plantar pressure than going shoeless, and substantially less protective than athletic shoes. So save the flip-flops for your beach vacation, not all-day wear.
