Nights Are Warm And The Days Are Young
Summer has arrived, and everyone in the Women’s Running office couldn’t be happier about it. We all agree that nothing beats getting in some miles with the warm sun on your back and beautiful flowers blooming all around you. This month we focus on travel—whether you are spending time on the road for business or pleasure, we have you covered with tips to help you eat healthy and maintain your fitness in a variety of time-efficient and fun ways, wherever you may find yourself.
Travel can upset your digestion for lots of reasons, so prepare your gut with probiotic nutrition products, all designed to keep your system running at peak performance (page 38). For a quick and simple guide to eating clean away from home, turn to page 39 to see tips on how to eat well on the road, in the air and on the go.
Running is a great way to see new places and meet new people. If you want to plan a getaway with a fitness focus, turn to page 42 for a rundown of destinations that are perfect for runners who love art, nature and good food and brews. But if you’re looking for a way to get away from the daily grind while staying close to home, the strategies in the new book Work In will help you feel refreshed and rejuvenated from the comfort of your own home (page 52).
Our cover models are the wonderful women of TheGoldenRatio4, a delightfully upbeat social media account (check them out on Twitter, Snapchat, Instagram and YouTube) run by the brilliant Jen Golbeck. Jen is a computer science professor and social media expert with a demanding travel schedule. She is also an avid runner and devoted champion of Golden Retrievers. She runs multiple marathons and ultras each year, and in training, she takes each of her five dogs on runs tailored to their individual abilities. Jen talks to us about the importance of finding time to run wherever in the world she finds herself, and how running adds balance to her very busy life (page 20).
