Ultrarunner Devon Yanko Talks About Abuse In “Women Who Fly” Series

She talks about the event that made her continue to be strong.

Devon Yanko, an ultrarunner who recently completed Leadville 100 for the first time—and won—is one of three women in the “Women Who Fly” series from Hoka One One. The three short films follow three female athletes who have had their lives affected by a single event—and lived to run through it. For Yanko, sexual abuse was something that brought her an opportunity to get closer to herself through running.

“I had to fight really hard to be who I am today, and I faced it. And, I feel like that’s how I want to face the world is, light and dark are part of our lives, right? And, you have to hold them with the same levity.”

Running has provided a new perspective that has made it possible for these inspiring women to overcome their challenges and be stronger for it. Watch part of Yanko’s story here.
