NCAA runner turned high school coach Hillary Kigar has an answer for all things training!

What are the most encouraging words during a tough workout or race?

No matter if it’s coming from a coach, friend or you are talking to yourself, the power of positive words and thoughts cannot be stressed enough. Encouragement via a race mantra should be brief but meaningful.

Think of something that really inspires or motivates you. Maybe it’s an empowering line from your favorite Katy Perry song, “I am a champion, and you’re gonna hear me roar!” Perhaps it’s something simple that you say with each step, “I can. I will.” Even something silly, if it resonates with you, can help you check back in to the workout to make sure you are focused while enjoying the process.
