The 2017 edition of the Carlsbad 5000 saw some incredible performances, including from Ethopia’s Dejen Gebremeskel who won the men’s race for the fifth time (a feat no other runner has accomplished). On the women’s side the race was a nail-biter, with Kenyan Violah Lagat (sister of American runner Bernard Lagat) crossed the finish for a win just one second ahead of American Shannon Rowbury.

Photographer Peggy Petite was there capturing all of the action; check out her photos from the eventful day of running.
