We’re excited to share this week’s Women’s Running magazine Blogger On The Run– Amanda from Run To The Finish! She started running almost 10 years ago without being able to finish one mile at a time and eventually went on to finish a marathon. She loves listening to audiobooks during long runs and dark chocolate with caramel and sea salt (doesn’t this combo sound sinfully amazing?!?!). Read on to find out how Amanda began blogging about her running journey:
WR: How would you describe yourself?
A: I love running because it allows me to explore the world, to remain healthy and to enjoy chocolate. This passion has driven me to improve my health overall and share those life lessons on my website.
WR: How did you begin running?
A: In 2003 a few college friends were running the Nashville Rock N Roll Half Marathon and I thought it sounded like a fun road trip. I couldn’t run more than a mile at the time, but I was determined to join them. It was a painful beginning, but each time I crossed a new milestone I felt so amazingly proud.
WR: What keeps you running and training?
A: The pride I feel in myself for doing something that is not naturally easy for me. It’s also an amazing excuse to be outside and have time to think.
WR: What type of run is your favorite?
A: Long runs are definitely my favorite. In fact, I get almost giddy just thinking about Sunday’s the time I’ll be out exploring the roads, pondering life and maybe listening to a great audiobook.
WR: What’s your favorite race memory?
A: I think nothing will beat my first marathon. I giggled and laughed from start to finish! In fact I had so much fun that I figured no other marathon could be as great and I didn’t run another one for almost 5 years.
WR: How did you get into blogging?
A: My husband is a patient man, but even the most patient don’t want to hear every detail of your daily runs. I thought the blog would give me an outlet to talk more about my running while also rekindling my love of writing.
WR: How do you reward yourself for accomplishing your training/running goals?
A: I think accomplishing the goal is it’s own reward. I take care of myself throughout the process with massages and such, but really doing what I love is the reward.
